VIOLONCELLO WINS CAULFIELD CUP The r.-iulfield Cup. one of Australias big races, worth 2,500, a two-mile handicap for three-year-olds and over, was run for at the Caulfield course of Melbourne. Aietoria, Saturday, October "15, and i won by Aiolonccllo, an English horse, which lias boon iii the colony but a few months. Violoncello is owned by Sir Samuel Hordcrn, of the big department store of Melbourne, aud is a chestnut horse by Aalcns-Catgut. The Cup race was run in the rain and clouoy weather, before a hugo crowd. Aioloricello won by half -a length, a length and a half dividing second and third. Time, .2:35.
