DEPUTY FIRST IN FEATURE Carries Colors of J. McMillen to Victory in Hotel Charminel Handicap at Beulah. roUMBCS, Ohio. April 20. — Carrying the colors of the i opular Thistledown Stable of J M Milieu. l eputy showed the way at all stages of the Hotel Charminel Handicap, the fifth and feature attraction at Beulah Park this afternoon. Despite the fact that he entered the stretch two lengths in advance of the others, jockey H. Hutton took no chances ami rode his mount out to the end and won with much to spare. Begonia. Bride o the Wind and Coral Reef reached the line almost in perfect alignment, fighting it out for the remainder of the purse and finished in the order named. Begonia came from far back and finished with a rush on the outside. The other pair were tiring after racing prominently during the early stages. A cool wind swept the course today, making topcoats a necessity for comfort. The attendance was up to the standard for a mid-week day. despite a clouded sky. The track was in the best condition of the meeting and diving out slowly. C E. Davis made it a double when his Follow Me got up in the last few yards to outstay Billiken in the sixth tace. He had previously annexed the opening race with Malthus. It was only after a hard stretch struggle, however, that Follow Me earned the purse, Billiken having shown the most spe. d to the stretch. Guy Clayton quit in the last eighth and Lord Vargrave came from far back to beat him home. »
