WOODWARDS ENGLISH WINNER Special Cablegram. NEWMARKET, England, May 9.— The colors of William Woodward, chairman of The Jockey Club of New York, were carried to victory today by Flange, which, at the odds of 8 to 1, won the Newmarket Handicap over the mile and a quarter route by a length and a half from Sir Wadias" St. Koscie. Fourteen others also ran. William Woodward is the owner of Gallant Fox, Preakness and Derby winner in 1930. He is also the owner of Brown Betty, recent winner of the Thousand Guineas.
