STARS IN CICERO HANDICAP Gallant Sir, Plucky Play, Indian Runner and Others to Race in Saturdays Feature. CICERO, 111., Aug. 1, That the renewal of the ,00C added Hawthorne Handicap, to be staged Saturday at Hawthorne, may prove one of the outstanding races of the season was indicated by the large number of probable starters, as named today by trainers of eligibles for the fixture. Trainer E. L. Fitzgerald plans to start both Gallant Sir and Plucky Play, stars of the N. W. Church stable, and others almost certain to race if a fast or good track prevails for the mile and one-eighth event include D. A. Woods Indian Runner, A. Bartelsteins Polydorus, T. H. McCaffreys Big Brand, Dixianas Esseff, A. Pons Swivel, Audley Farms Late Date, Shandon Farms Ever-gold, S. W. Labrots Springsteel, A. A. Baronis Waylayer, J. F. Adams Rehoboth and others. Plucky Play and Gallant Sir will try for "Hawthorne" honors under 124 pounds each and India t Runner must carry 119 pounds, or five more than Polydorus. In the announcement of weights, as made yesterday, the weight for Indian Runner was given as 110 pounds, which was in error and the impost to be carried by the Wood star, a double handicap winner at Arlington Park, will put him to the hardest test of his career. Weights for other of the probable participants scale down to 102 pounds, under which impost Rehoboth will be admitted. As the attractive feature of tomorrows racing, Gallant Sir, Indian Runner, Polydorus, Big Brand, Rehoboth, Mr. Sponge and Cathop will clash at six and one-half furlongs in the Sky Harbor Handicap, and, while the distance is far removed from the stamina-testing route of Saturdays race, the Sky Harbor winner may be the one to beat ir. Saturdays feature. Plucky Play, Waylayer and Evergold worked in preparation for the Hawthorne on a good track at the local course this morning and the former veteran, an old favorite of Hawthorne patrons, came through well wher he ran the nine furlongs route in 1:54, handily. Waylayer and Evergold each worked a like distance, the former in 1:57, handily, and the latter in 2:00 and with much in reserve.
