WOOD F. AXTON DIES LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 4. Wood F. Ax-ton, president of the Axton-Fischer Tobacco Company and noted turfman, died at his home here today at the age of 63. The Axton-Fischer Tobacco Company is the largest independent tobacco company in the country. Axton maintained one of the largest strings of horses in the country, among them Hank MacTavish, Kentucky Derby candidate, which was a recent arrival here from Florida. Other well-known Axton color-bearers are Paradisical, Watonga, Frank Ormont, Bay Servant, Chief Evergreen, Behemoth, Broomshot and Lillian Uhl.
