I NARRAGANSETTS STAKE LIST Eight Feature Events During First Meeting This Year. Entry Blanks for Rich Special Appear In First Book, Although Race Is Scheduled August 21. PROVIDENCE, R. I., April 24. Hot off the printing press, hundreds of stake blanks for Narragansetts first summer meeting were mailed tonight to clamoring horsemen. Narragansett greets the season of 1935 with a short meeting of only sixteen days, .from June 19 to July 6 inclusive, yet this first stake book glitters with no fewer than eight stake events. Three claiming stakes of ,500 each, four races of ,000 each and one handicap of 0,000, completes the list compiled by racing secretary Pat Horgan. Entry blanks for the 5,000 or 0,000 "Narragansett Special" also appear in this book, although the race will not be run until August 21, midway of the second summer meeting. The nine stakes close oh Monday, May 27, but supplementary nominations or late entries may be made for "The Special" up to and including July 15, at an increased nomination fee. At least 100 nominations are expected for the "Special," making it the. richest stake ever competed for j in New England. Complete details of the stake events are as follows: Stakes to Be Run at First Summer Meeting 1. The King Philip Handicap, June 19; ,000 added, three-year-olds and upward. One and one-sixteenth miles. 2. The Narragansett Handicap, June 22; ,000 added, three-year-olds and upward. Six furlongs. 3. The Watch Hill Claiming Stakes, June 26; ,500 added, two-year-olds. Five furlongs. 4. The Governors Handicap, June 29; ,000 added, three-year-olds and upward. One and one-eighth miles. 5. The Gaspee Claiming Stakes, July 3; ,500 added, three-year-olds and upward. Six furlongs. 6 The Fort Adams Claiming Stakes, July 4; ,500 added three-year-olds and upward.. One and one-sixteenth miles. 7. The Old Colony Stakes, July 4; ,000 added, two-year-olds. Five furlongs. 8. The Rhode Island Handicap, July 6; 0,000 added, three-year-olds and upward. One and three-sixteenths miles. To Be Run at Second Summer Meeting 9.
