SANDY MACK, hustled to the front in the opening strides, drew clear in the first sixteenth, increased his lead steadily rounding the back stretch and was never threatened. BROWBEATEN followed closest to the pace throughout and held on well at the end. TUGBOAT FRANK, outrun for the first three-eighths, was brought to the outside entering the stretch and closed going fastest of all. SEABISCUIT, outpaced early, closed a big gap after saving all possible ground at the last turn. IN FRONT showed speed and was well up until reaching the last three-sixteenths. JAMBOREE was steadied along in back of the pace established by SWASHBUCKLER, came to the outside in the stretch, wore down the latter inside the last seventy yards and was going away at the end. SWASHBUCKLER opened up a commanding lead m the first eighth, was rated in front, but was unable .to stave off the closing challenge of the winner. ARMFUL, sent into a prominent position soon after the start, continued gamely to the end. KRONA was well up throughout. J.UBILEE JIM moved up rounding the far turn, , but was unable to reach the leaders. PROFESSOR PAUL, outrun early; closed some ground. LIGHT WEIGHT was never a factor. MEROVECH, steadied along off the early pace, responded gamely to urging !n the last quarter, moved up last to take the lead in the stretch and outlasted GREAT LOVER at the finish. The latter, prominently placed all the way, came wide into the stretch and fought it out gamely to the finish. STEPBROTHER, unable to keep pace early, came with a rush on the inside rounding the last three-sixteenths and was fortunate to obtain clear passage. FLAG BEARER displayed good early speed, but faltered in the last eighth. PROTEUS, well up, was unable to reach the leaders. STAROGAN was never able to get within striking distance of the pace. BLACKMAIL, on the outside while chasing after the winner, came to the inside in the last eighth and closed with a rush. WITAN, unable to keep up with the early pace, swung to the outside at the stretch turn and came willingly in the drive. POCKET, well up for the first half rhile, weakened slightly in the last quarter mile. AMERICAN EMBLEM went prominently placed early and, saving all possible ground, weakened through the stretch. ". WEST STAR all the gamely, but "was to displayed good speed way, though tiring slightly in the closing eighth. SIENNA displayed improvement in setting the pace, but faltered after going a half mile. CAPPOQUIN was never a threat. TRICKLING made up some ground, though never able to enter into contention at any stage of . the journey. FLOWERY LADY moved through on the inside when SALUT DAMOUR bore out, carrying JUDGE SCHILLING with him nearing the turn into the back stretch, was rated along in front and held JUDGE SCHILLING safe at the finish. JUDGE SCHILLING forced the pace most of the way, came wide into the stretch and just lasted to hold SALUT DAMOUR safe. The latter bore out badly after rounding the first turn, saved ground in the stretch and closed gamely. SMEAR raced evenly. OLD JUDGE was outrun. CARSONO was never prominent.
