EASTER HATTER TRIUMPHANT Adds Canadian Breeders Handicap Handicapto to List of Seasons Victories Treacherous Footing TORONTO Ont June 8 Dominating the race and showing excellent ability over a treacherous track left in heavy condition from rain that fell for several hours con ¬ tinuously on Friday Easter Hatter racing in the livery of M Butch Keeling was winner of the fourth renewal of the Ca ¬ nadian Breeders Handicap a test of one mile and a sixteenth that served as the principal attraction at Long Branch Satur ¬ day Opposed by the best older performers of the homebred division including two of E F Seagrams seasoned threeyearolds the veteran son of Mad Hatter Penitent stamped himself above the ordinary in rough footing when he reached the end of the journey fighting desperately to earn the winners share of 1400 1400Chasing Chasing the veteran sixyearold Keeling performer but meeting defeat by a length came Gay Sympathy one of the two Sea ¬ gram starters then followed W C Hannas Trickys Son to take the measure of the disappointing favorite Spey Crest while Crofter Papalico and Sally Fuller a stable mate of Gay Sympathy completed the field of seven sevenIn In the feature several minutes were wasted before starter Clark found a suitable alignment and this came after Papalico and Trickys Son were placed on the outside of the starting gate Easter Hatter particu ¬ larly alert went out to set the pace and in the first five furlongs enjoyed a com ¬ fortable lead leadOne One of the biggest crowds in years turned out for the sport at the Lake Shore course and the racing despite the condition of the track was of high quality qualityFavorites Favorites and second choices accounted for the majority of the races
