THISTLE DOWN MEETING OPENING ON JUNE 17 CLEVELAND Ohio June 10 Summer racing will be inaugurated at Thistle Down Park Clevelands million dollar track Mon ¬ day June 17 for a period of eighteen days according to general manager Robert S Eddy Jr following a conference with the Ohio State Racing Commission Saturday The Ohio State Derby 6000 added which is to be run July 6 will be decided at the Thistle Down course courseWe We have been opportuned by a number of business and social leaders of Cleveland to open the Thistle Down course earlier than planned said general manager Eddy be ¬ cause of its advantageous location to Cleve ¬ land and the fact that it has elaborate club ¬ house facilities not enjoyed at Bainbridge Park We have a very fine membership in the clubhouse enclosure as was evinced last season Some of the most representative people took advantage of this exclusive priv ¬ ilege which was by invitation only onlyWe We have been working on the grounds at Thistle Down for some ten days and the track proper is in splendid shape There is a soft cushion at Thistle Down which has a special appeal to horsemen and many have applauded our move in inaugurating the Thistle Down meeting earlier
