CHURCHILL DOWNS MEETING Statistics of Most Successful Session Held in Several Years. M. L. Schwartz Heads Winning Owners Through Bold Ventures Thrilling Triumph in Kentucky Derby. The Churchill Downs spring meeting of 1936 was the most successful staged at the popular Louisville track in years. The racing began April 25 and continued to May 18, for a period of twenty days, during which time 160 races were run and a total distribution of 81,825 in stakes and purses attracted most of the best horses in the country. The daily average distribution amounted to ,091.25. The sixty-second running of the famous Kentucky Derby was marked by one of the most sensational contests in its long and eventful history, with victory to Bold Venture after a remarkable duel with Brevity. As a result of Bold Ventures triumph, his owner, M. L. Schwartz of New York, was the leading money winner at the meeting, as was Bold Venture among the horses participating. Mrs. E. Denemark, Dixiana and Milky Way Farms also figured prominently and carried off a goodly portion of the spoils. B. James was the leading rider, with nineteen victories out of eighty-seven mounts, for the high percentage of .22. C. Stevenson, C. Corbett and L. Haas also rode with a goodly measure of success. Clyde Van Dusen topped the trainers, saddling thirteen winners, to eleven each for B. A? Jones and A. Pelleted.
