That Riverside Park intends increasing the purse money in an effort to attract a better grade of horses here was announced by general manager W. P. Kyne, and for that purpose has arranged an attractive schedule of handicaps. Starting with the Inaugural, which will be the opening day feature, and a purse of 00, the meeting will close on July 4 with the Riverside Championship, and this event will carry a purse of ,000, the largest ever given here. The Inaugural will be at six furlongs, while the Riverside will be decided at one and one-sixteenth miles. Other handicaps that will carry a purse of ,000 or more are the Memorial Day- Handicap, at one mile with a ,500 value; on Saturday, June 6, the Muehlbach Hotel Handicap will be the feature with a ,000 purse and will also be decided at the one mile distance, the Pickwick Hotel Handicap, at six furlongs and worth ,000, will be on Saturday, June 13; and on Saturday, June 20, the President Hotel Handicap, at one mile with a ,500 purse, will be the feature; on June 27 the Baltimore Hotel Handicap, at one and one-eighth miles, "will be the best offering of the day and will have a purse value of ,500.
