Lincoln Handicap Last Stake of Meet Eleven Nominees For 5000 Event EventAll All May See Action Saturday In Mile and Quarter Race Shot Put 40 Victor Eligible EligibleSTICKNEY STICKNEY 111 June 12 With another successful weekend of racing in the rec ¬ ords officials of the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club began turning their attention to tha closing phases of the season at Hawthorne where the current meeting comes to an end next Saturday The Lincoln Fields meeting has encountered an unprecedented amount of adversity but with better conditions in prospect for the association fans may sea some of the best sport of the spring in this vicinity during the last six days of racing at this popular west side track Bad track conditions have retarded the training of many of the better known horses but some of these have reached racing edge during the past few days to give rise to hopes that daily features next week all will draw more attractive fields fieldsRacing Racing secretary William H Shelley is especially hopeful for next Saturdays re ¬ newal of the 5000 Lincoln Handicap which will test threeyearbids and older horses at a mile and a quarter Eleven horses are eligible for it and if nothing further oc ¬ curs to interrupt their preparation all of them may answer the call postward postwardNominations Nominations Listed ListedThe The eleven nominees for the Lincoln are Valdina Farms Rounders and Valdina Or ¬ phan A C Ernsts Aletern Mrs Marie Evans Shot Put Galbreath and Diensts Best Seller David Straus Daily Trouble Walmac Farms Bushwhacker Eddie An ¬ dersons Burnt Cork Mrs A M Creechs Valdina Groom Mrs Clyde Troutts Take Wing and William Montgomerys Choppy Sea SeaA A number of these horses took part in the La Salle Handicap here today todayIf If Shot Put is among the starters next Saturday he will have the opportunity to win the Lincoln for the second time for he accounted for the stake in 1940 when he was a fouryearold Two other horses already have won the Lincoln twice Mucho Gusto in 1936 and 1939 and Equifox the last two runnings runningsTodays Todays La Salle Handicap served as one preliminary to the Lincoln while another is scheduled for Wednesday Shelley has carded a handicap for threeyearolds and upward at a mile and a sixteenth and those who failed to show to advantage this after ¬ noon may qualify for the closing day head liner in the midweek feature featureIt It is the hope of the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club to parade all of the best horses on the grounds before the public next week If they dont appear under silks it wont be the fault of the association for suitable features for horses of every type are in ¬ cluded in the programs for the final six days of the meeting
