Gallorette and Eight Others of Her fl Age and Sex Clash in Acorn Stakes • Recce, Monsoon Will Carry Silks of Col. C. V. Whitney In Mile Event at Belmont ELMONT, L. L, N. Y.. June 6.— The fifteenth running of the Acorn Stakes, American equivalent of the 1.000 Guineas, highlights tomorrows program at Belmont Park. While a "young" race compared with most of the stakes on the Westchester Racing Association sparkling agenda, it has been won in past years by such sterling fillies and ultimately* broodmares as Baba Kenny, Top Flight, Iseult. Fleam, Good Gamble, Dawn Play, Handcuff, Hostility, Damaged Goods and last years "Horse of the Year," Twilight Tear. Nine have been entered for tomorrows one-mile journey in quest of the major portion of the 0,000 added money and j the rather more important prestige attaching to an Acorn winner. This field includes some couplings, with Col. C. V. Whitney naming Monsoon and Recce, and trainer Jim Fitzsimmons planning to saddle Bellicose and Subdued for Ogden | Phipps and Segula for Belair Stud. These I entries appear to include the principal contention in tomorrows classic. The others are M. Slifkins Head Smart, Briggs F. Spachs Turnplate. Isadore Bie-bers Bertie S. and W. L. Branns Gallorette. Recent form indicates that Gallorette will be a formidable factor. In her last start this chestnut miss finished a fading second behind Jeep in one division of the Wood Memorial at Jamaica. However, Recce impressed as rating close behind Busher, Twosy and Good Blood among the leading juvenile fillies of 1944 and has been working well in preparation for tomorrows test. In her last start, she was beaten little more than a length by the colts. Pot o Luck and Plebiscite, in the Pimlico Futurity after encountering a little ill luck in the race. She had won her two previous starts - against her own sex. Recces stablemate. Monsoon, won her seasonal debut at Jamaica. The pair should take a lot of beating. Segula also won at the first asking during the Jamaica meeting. Her two running mates. Bellicose and Subdued, showed little here on Monday, but both have demonstrated on occasions that they can run considerably better than generally expected. Bertie S.. Head Smart and Turnplate are all frequent winners, but may be slightly outclassed. Ted Atkinson is slated to ride Monsoon in tomorrows Acorn, with Arnold Kirk-land aboard Recce. Johnny Adams, who tripled yesterday as well as losing a couple of narrow decisions, will be on Bellicose, with Jimmy Stout booting Segula. Arcaro will lend his talent and prestige to Gallorette, while Hubert Trent is to pilot Subdued. No boys have yet been assigned Head | Smart, Turnplate or Bertie S.
