Suffolk Meeting Opens With Governors Renewal i Dinner Party Has Ten Rivals in First Stakes at East Boston Oval EAST BOSTON, Mass., June 9.— The New England racing scene shifts to Suffolk Downs Monday when the Eastern Racing ■ Association will inaugurate a 54-day meeting at the spacious seaside course. President Allan J. Wilson and his associates are sanguine over the prospects of a highly successful season, which will be highlighted by the usual number of richly endowed stakes. The six major features will be the 0,000 added Massachusetts Handicap, the 5,000 Mayflower Stakes, the 5,000 Yankee Handicap, the Betsy Ross Stakes, Miles Standish Stakes and Hannah Dustin Handicap. The latter three offerings will carry purse valuations of 0,000 added. Other outstanding events listed for decision during the Suffolk Downs season include the Paul Revere Handicap, the Tomasello Memorial, the Plymouth Rock, the Constitution, the Bunker Hill and the Governors Handicap. The opening day program will be headlined by the ,000 added Governors Handicap, a mile test for three-year-olds and upward, which attracted a field of 11 of the better grade routers. White Star Stables Dinner Party, victor in several major engagements in New England last year, has been assigned top weight of 118 pounds for the main attraction by racing secretary and handicapper C. J. McLennan. Dinner Party will make his first start of the year in the Governors and is expected to answer the bugle stoutly supported. Trainer James East will saddle W. A. Toolmaker has been imposted with 106 pounds, while Salvo will go postward under 113, and Rocket Gal, 104. Toolmaker won several features at the Rhode Island course and Salvo has trained , in such a manner that he is a threat. Rocket Gal won an allowance event at Narragan-sett on May 31, defeating among others F. B. Eye, King LeRoy and Cloverland. Completing the probable starting field for the Governors are Mrs. W. W. Adams Ca-vatorta. 112, and Side Boy, 113; Wallace Renards Mixer, 112; Arcand and Laurins Valdina Craft, 106; Carlone and Parrillos Chain Miss, 103; Mrs. P. Klevens Onecbill, 108. and Morris Wexlers Broke Even. 106. Of this latter group, Mixer, winner of the 1945 renewal of the Bristol Handicap at Narragansett. is expected to go rather well and trainer Mose Shapoff stated this morning that his charge undoubtedly will be benefitted by the Governors eight furlongs distance. Post time for the first race at Suffolk will be 2:30 p. m. daily and track officials were today making preparations to entertain a banner crowd at the Monday opening. Several good supporting numbers are carded for decision, the chief of which is the six furlongs seventh race, which will bring together a band of the classier sprinters.
