Girlsome Gains Initial Visit to Winners Circle Bomar Stable Filly Turns Back Geranium With Ease at Detroit FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June, 17. Heavy rains that fell over the week-end left the Motor City track in a muddy condition but overhead conditions improved to permit a crowd of more than 10,000 to turn out as the sport went into its fourth full week. Track conditions resulted in many withdrawals leaving abbreviated fields in many of the races, the best of which was the six furlongs Inkster Combination Purse that was sixth on the card. Bomar Stables Girlsome found the muddy track and the competition of the first race to her liking to annex major honors easily in the six furlongs first race. Scoring the first success of her career, the winner led home 10 other three-year-olds, closest up of which was Mrs. J. A. Goodwins Geranium, four lengths in her wake. A length and a half farther back Mrs. R. H. Wileys Memory Boss was third. Girlsome and Geranium were coupled with Fashion Play in the mutuel field and paid 2.60 as the winner was timed in 1:17. The favored Dental Chair flashed some early speed but his command was short lived and at the half-mile mark Midhy had established a three-length advantage running before the eventual winner with Geranium next in line. Through the home lane Girlsome was permitted her head, and revelling in the going, she loped to the front easily and drew out to make the issue safe. Midhy was done when headed and Geranium moved into second place as Memory Boss, outrun into the stretch, closed with a rush to be third.
