Herb Roth Leading Driver Dies After Harness Spill BUFFALO N Y May 27 Herb Roth for many years one of the leading race drivers in the East died today in Our Lady of Victory Hospital following an accident last night at Buffalo Raceway The veteran horseman suffered a fractured skull when he was thrown heavily to the track in a spill involving four horses and drivers He was bleeding profusely when picked up by the track ambulance and never regained consciousness Roth was driving the pacer Flashpoint on Wednesday night when an ¬ other horse on a break crashed into him resulting in a general pileup It is at strange coincidence that driver Cy Stiegle man was killed at almost the same spot in an accident last year yearRoth Roth whose home was Allentown Pa campaigned a large stable of halfimla track horses but over the years he cama up with a real good one from time to time The best known trotters and pacers with whom he was associated are probably the Abbedale sidewheeler Congressional 200 Hamsa Dillon undefeated in 1927 and Rapid Hanover He ranked sixth last season among the nations leading race winners
