Tom Underwood to Run For Congressional Post PostNARC NARC Official Seeks Democratic Nomination in Kentucky District DistrictLEXINGTON LEXINGTON Ky June 10 Tom B Underwood racing secretary of the Na ¬ tional Association of State Racing Com ¬ missioners as well as editor of the Lexing ¬ ton Herald today announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Con ¬ gress from the sixth congressional district His decision came as a climax of a draft Underwood movement in a sixth district convention earlier in the week at Louis I ville In the past Underwood has repeated ¬ ly declined to run for public office and in announcing his candidacy he made it clear clearthat that he is motivated in the interests of party harmony The office which Under ¬ wood seeks was vacated by Virgil Chapman of Paris who now is a candidate for sena ¬ torial nomination Scant and ineffective ineffectiveOpposition circlesI Opposition is foreseen in political circles I between now and November NovemberUnderwood Underwood long has been active in the interests of the turf sport as a Demo ¬ cratic committeeman and as secretary of the National Association of State Racing Commissioners for the last 14 years In the event Underwood is elected he would not take office until January 1 and he said here today I cant be sure how it would affect my position with the NARC at the moment Probably I could carry on without salary until the next convention and some one else is appointed I havent had an opportunity as yet to discuss it itjwith jwith Mr Cole Ashley T Cole NARC president
