Six Arlington-Washington Stakes Payments Due Third and final payments are due today, May 1, on the six early closing stakes that will be run at the Arlington and Washington Parks coordinated meeting. Fees of 00 each are due on the Arlington Classic and American Derby, outstanding summer three-year-old fixtures in the Middle West, while payments of 5 each must be paid to keep two-year-olds eligible for the Arlington and Washington Futurities, the Lassie and the Princess Pat. The number of eligibles for all six stakes is far ahead of those for the corresponding period in 1949. There are 101 still in the Classic as against 81 for last year, while the American Derby has 109 as compared with 86 for 1949. The Arlington Futurity has 245 youngsters eligible and the Washington Park Futurity, 255. The corresponding totals for 1949 were 208 and 217, respectively. There are 210 in the Lassie against 178 last season and 212 in the Princess Pat, compared with 177 in 1949. Following the third payments, only starting fees are required. It costs 00 to start in each of the three-year-old stakes and 00 each for the four juvenile tests.
