New York Group Holds Tropical Park Option Florida Track May Switch To Harness Racing Later NEW YORK, N. Y„ May 5.— An option has been taken on Tropical Park, the Miami race track that has been rumored . to be on the market for many months, by Aired O. Hoyt and Nathan E. Hertzfeld, president and vice-president of Algam, Inc.. oiTier of the new Yonkers Raceway Harness Racing Track. This option, which provides for the purchase of Tropical Park for a sum in the neighborhood of ,250,-000, will expire in June. In this transaction, Hoyt and Hertzfeld. do not represent j Algam, Inc., but are acting on a "purely ! personal basis." Dates for the coming Florida racing season will be allotted late this month at a meeting of the Florida State Racing Commission, and applications for Tropical dates will be made by Herbert Bayard Swope, chairman of the board of directors , -v, j * . i of the Gables Racing Association, which remains in control until the option is exercised. When the new owners take over at Tropv ical, thoroughbred racing, for dates accorded by the. commission, will be continued, according to a statement of Hoyt and Hertzfeld. Eventually, it is believed, Tropical Park will be transformed into a night harness racing track. Reached at his New York office today, Swope said that Tropical had not yet been "purchased" by Hoyt and Hertzfeld, but he confirmed reports of the option, agreeing that the sum deposited practically insured its being exercised in June. In case the option is not exercised, Swope said, the Gables Racing Association will consider "many other offers." He added that, in the meantime, the association was "pursuing the even tenor, of its ways."
