Red Sox McDermott Insists He Hasnt Lost Fast Ball NEW YORK, N. Y., May 8 UP.— The easiest way to torment Maurice McDermott of the Boston Red Sox is to suggest hes lost his famed fast ball. Dont think it hasnt been suggested, either. Recently, Paul Krichell, the New York Yankees head scout, voiced the opinion that the Boston left-hander wasnt nearly as fast as he used to be. There were several who were quick to agree with him, too. "I dont know where anyone got that impression," exclaimed McDermoot in surprise. "Maybe they were fooled when they saw me in spring training. This year, for the first time, I took.it easy and used curve balls a lot more than I did previously. But I still show em that fast one when I have to. Im just as fast how as I ever was and if you dont believe it, ask Birdie Tebbetts." Tebbetts, McDermotts catcher, seconded the motion.
