Five Turf Course Stakes At Atlantic City Meeting ATLANTIC CITY, N. J., May 18.— Five turf stakes, one more than last year, are being programmed for the meeting at the seashore course, August 9, through September 19, according to an announcement by the Atlantic City Racing Association. The complete stake program will be announced within the next few days, but it is understood that 13 features will be carded, two more than last year. One of these will be the New Grass race. The 5,000 added Atlantic City Turf Handicap is again scheduled to headline the Labor Day card. Set for three-year-olds and up, however the fixture this year will be run at one mile and three-sixteenths instead of a mile and a half as in the past. First of the grass stakes will be the Ocean City Handicap for three-year-olds and upward, at one mile and a sixteenth on September 11, first Saturday of the 45-day meeting. An additional ,000 is being added to bring the added money for the event to 5,000. This is followed two weeks later by the Absecon Island Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, over the mile and a furlong route with 0,000 added. Formerly run on the main track, this event is changing places with the Pageant Handicap, which now moves to the main track from the grass. The Atlantic City on Labor Day is next on the grass list, followed by the Home Bred, a handicap for three-year-olds and upward, foaled in New Jersey, on September 12. The fifth and new grass stake is the Ventnor Handicap for three-year-olds at one mile and a sixteenth. Scheduled for Saturday, September 22, the race carries added money of 0,000.
