OFF AT 5:301 EASTERN STANDARD TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. LEADING MAN was sent into command soon after the start, saved ground while maintaining a good lead to the stretch, then responded to brisk urging 1 and held DUKE BOSWELL safe. The latter, never far back, finished strongly under punishment, but could not I reach the winner while easily best of the others. BOOTS BEST failed to respond when set down for the stretch run. MR. EDD began fast, but dropped back soon after the break and never seriously threatened. WHIRL OFF made a mild bid nearing the stretch, then tired. EXCEL LAD broke slowly and raced wide. VIXEN ROSE, forwardly placed from the outset, moved into command when settled in the stretch, then held on gamely to withstand WINTAG. The latter raced evenly to the stretch, was taken out slightly for the drive, closed fast under hard urging, but could not overtake the winner. IDA C. was reserved for a half mile, then finished strongly in a sharp effort. FINE ART engaged BLACK WING to the stretch, then faltered. The latter assumed command early, made the pace until -inside the stretch, then tired, appearing short, and probably needed his race. CHOMBRO broke sluggishly and raced far back throughout. DO-DO, away slowly, saved ground while improving position to the stretch, was sent between horses during the drive and, after disposing of LEAPING MOOSE, lasted to withstand BEST CHANCE. The latter, outrun to the stretch, was taken to the outside for the drive and closed fast, but could not overtake the winner. IRRAWADDY held on well throughout and had no mishap in his good effort. GAY SENORITA was in close quarters during the drive and could .not get to the leaders when finally clear. SHARP TOOL was roughed at the final turn and failed to recover: TURBAN tired after showing early foot. STARRY CANT showed nothing. LEAPING MOOSE went to the front early, made the pace until inside the stretch, then gave way badly. Scratched— 26639 Cafe Singer, 104; 29465 Brownanne, 115; 29593 Kibbitz, 109. GOOD HEAVENS moved j to iu the front early, made the pace to the last quarter mile under steady rating, then withstod a brisk drive and held OATKA safe. The latter, away slowly, saved ground while in hand to the stretch, was sent to the outside for the drive and finished fast. JAPHAP raced prominently from the beginning and had no mishap. WHATANURSE faltered during the drive, PINE LAKE appeared sore during the post parade, lacked early speed, but made up ground during the last three-eighths. SKY TRAIN, reserved to the stretch, failed to rally when set down in the drive. PLAY SURE was through early. Overweight— Oatka, 1 pound; Pine Lake, 2. Corrected weight— Pine Lake, 110.
