VOLT made the pace to the stretch under steady rating, tired badly during the late stages, but had enough left to prevail over EL PAIR ME. The latter, guided to the inside for the drive, closed resolutely and was getting to the leader. NANCIE PATE, never far back, made up some ground when placed to stern punishment. MELLOTUNE rallied too late to seriously endanger the top ones. WISE CHOICE saved ground to no avail. PUNKS had no apparent excuse. POINSETTE appeared to drift out during the stretch run and as a result was unable to be placed to pressure. PERSIANA was never dangerous. MY WASH, always within striking distance, moved up boldly on the outside nearing the furlong marker to reach near, even terms with PATMIBOY, bore over on the latter repeatedly during the stretch run, then drew clear during the final strides. PATMIBOY, • forced to take up several times during the drive when impeded by the winner, held dn tenaciously in a sharp effort. SUPERWOLF raced evenly through the late stages without mishap. PEACEFUL GENIE lacked a rally. MAIL FROM HOME, in close quarters on the far turn and through the stretch, was unable to threaten the leaders. WISE POLICY began sluggishly. SUDDEN SCARE raced wide. INSIST failed to attain the lead and tired. DUSTY DAYS quit badly once displaced. MUCH PLEASURE failed to respond when set down for the ultimate test. JACK FUSANO lacked early speed. PHIDIAS was never a forward factor. SILVER PLATE quit. BILLCELLA retired after showing brief early speed and came back slightly sore. BARBAZURE never menaced. ADAMS OFF OX, slow, to reach best stride, responded readily to assume a clear lead nearing the furlong marker, then held KING DIVER safe. The latter, sent into closer contention entering the stretch, closed willingly, but was not good enough. THE GHIZEH was unable to improve her position when hard ridden through the late stages. ASTRO, forced to take the complete overland route when making her belated stretch bid, was unable to seriously threaten the leaders. NUGGET GOLD caught tiring horses. CHESHIRE CAT failed to stay.
