Langford Replaces McConnel As Bel Air Mutuel Manager BEL AIR, Md., June 6.— E. I. "Jim" Langford, Baltimorean who currently serves as mutuel manager at Delaware Park, will replace Walter McConnell in a similar capacity at the Bel Air race track, where a 10-day meeting will be conducted from August 15 to 25. Poor health will keep McConnell, who has been in charge of betting at Bel Air since G. Ray Bryson opened the track in 1937, from returning to his former post. Langfprd has been associated with pari-mutuels in Maryland since the conversion from handbooks to betting machines at Pimlico in the fall oi 1913. He has served from the bottom up in all capacities and is familiar with all phases of mutuel plant operation. He became mutuel manager at Delaware Park in 1944 and also served at Laurel, under the Butler ownership, from 1944 through 1946. Langford was in charge of wagering at Havre de Grace from 1946 until the Harford County course was closed .thisjyrang.,. . ~ ~.
