Fairmount Off to Good Start; Wager94,342 Opening Night FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., May 24. Despite the threat of thunderstorms, both attendance and mutuel handle for last nights opening card of the spring season her at Fairmount Park, showed increases over the corresponding night of 1951. Rain fell during the running of the first and fifth races but not in sufficient amount to affect the racing strip. The inaugural night crowd numbered 10,909 as against 10,139 in 1951, while the mutuel play amounted to 94,342, as compared with 35,325 last year. Well pleased with the opening night business, the Fair-mount management considers it as a good indication for a highly successful meeting.
