Blackamoor After Repeat In Detroits Nisa Purse Has Fiddle, Triumphant, Greatest To Beat in Six-Furlong Feature By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 16. The Nisa Purse, a sixr furlong condition race for four-year-olds and upward, will headline an attractive program Thursday afternoon at this spacious Michigan mile track. The headline event lured an overnight band of seven quick sprinters and it shapes up as an unusually interesting short distance test. Best supporting number on the Thursday card is the Morenci Kiwanis Purse, also at three-quarters mile and for horses from the older age divisions. Mrs. Joseph Tomlinsons Canadian-owned Blackamoor, will try for his second straight local success in the Nisa Purse and he holds a royal chance for victory. A good class winner in two of his eight engagements last year, the Tomlin-son representative gave proof of his class here this season when he trounced five speedy rivals in the Michigan Pharmacists Purse on June 2. A versatile performer on any type footing, Blackamoor probably will go to the post Thursday a choice for he is favorably-weighted with 112 pounds. While Blackamoor rates highly in the Continued on Page Fifty Blackamoor After Repeat at Detroit Engages Fiddle, Triumphant And Greatest in Nisa Purse Over Six Furlongs Distance Continued from Page One Thursday feature, hp will have to turn in a sharp effort to garner major honors. In the field named to oppose him are such good ones as Henry Forrests Triumphant, Thomas F. Devereux homebred Greatest, and Fiddle, a member of the Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffer Stable, the highweights under the allowance terms of the dash at 120 pounds each. Also I. J. Collins Fair Pilot. 116, Mrs. Lottie Wolfs locally-owned Gezel Holly, 110, and Mrs. George C. Whites Tennessee-owned mare, Princess Trace, who will shoulder a feathery 105-pound burden in the Nisa. Greatest posted a "five-three-one" record during his 1953 campaign and he romped to an easy victory here last week in the three-quarters mile Ann Arboi Purse, defeating Doctor McCabe, Stop Gap Radical, Vie and Blenfly. The Devereux homebred stepped along in 1:12 over a good track and a repeat of that effort would stamp him quite dangerous in the Nisa. Scored in Belle Isle Purse Triumphant also will take some beating if he races back to his recent conquest in the six-furlong Belle Isle Purse. The Forrest sprinter trimmed Avion, Daiquari, Sun Tan Gal, Dixie Flyer and Fair Pilot on June 5 and it must be remembered that he scored in eight races last year, was seven times second, and finished third on foui occasions. Fiddle cannot be counted out of the Nisa Purse. The Shaffer four -year-old ran second to Nocallula in the Ionia Lions Purse in his last appearance under silks and previous to that outing, he won a well-deserved decision in the three-quarters mile Fenkell Purse. In the latter event, Fiddle took the top on Princess Trace, Nocallula Blackamoor, Lieutenant, Star Show anc Fly Lelia and made every pole a winner pulling up in 1 : 12 over a fast but slightly dull strip. Marion H. VanBergs Ambushed, who will be ridden by Johnny Rotz, is the overnight favorite for the Morenci Kiwanii Purse while Benjamin Fogelsons Hopeidc and Theodore D. Buhls Motor-City-ownec Astounding also appear well-placed in the secondary attraction. Triple R. Stable Moon Love, Mrs. S. H. Sadaccas Witch Way, and Devereux Gay Hunter complete the Morenci Kiwanis Purse likely starting field.
