Martin, Turf Figure for 60 Years, Succumbs at Age of 78 LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 31.— Herbert L. Martin, 78, a widely-known turf figure for approximately 60 years, died here Sunday. Martin was known from coast to coast as "Umbrella Herb,", because he always carried an umbrella — rain or shine. He was one of Roscoe Gooses greatest boosters when Goose was a jockey. Goose won the 1913 Kentucky Derby aboard the long-shot Donerail. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at Mason, 111.
