Name Thirty-Seven For Monmouth Cap i Helioscope and High Gun Head Nominations Roster For 5,000 Headliner OCEANPORT, N. J., June 4.— Headed by Helioscope and High Gun, 37 of the top handicap performers in the land have been nominated for the 5,000 Monmouth Handicap, to be run at Monmouth Park on Saturday, July 23. This race, at a mile and a quarter, was increased from 0,000 to 5,000 this season. Helioscope, owned by W. G. Helis, Jr., defeated King Ranchs High Gun a head after a never-to-be-forgotten stretch duel in last Mondays renewal of the Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park. They are the acknowledged leaders of the handicap division. However, the list of nominees for the Monmouth contains the names of other high-ranking competitors. In this group are Alfred Vanderbilts Social Outcast, Greentree Stables Straight Face and Maharajah, Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Subahdar, Hasty House Farms Mister Black, Mrs. E. D. Jacobs* Joe Jones, Foxcatcher Farms Chevation, Brook -meades Capeador, Ogden Phipps Bassanio, and James Cox Bradys Artismo. Has Four-for-Fiye Record Helioscope has won four of his five starts this season, bowing only in the Campbell Memorial at -Bowie, won by Social Outcast. He. won the Southern Maryland, Valley Forge and Massachusetts in addition to the Suburban. High Gun won the Metropolitan and was second in the Suburban in two starts after being acclaimed as the top three-year-old of last season. Bassanio was the winner jof the Monmouth a year ago, while Social Outcast holds victories in the McLennan, Campbell and Lincoln Special. Subahdar won the Laurel and Camden .Handicaps, and Mister Black has been, successful in the Gulfstream and Continental Turf Handicaps. Joe Jones, won four stakes in 1954 and the Bowie this season.
