These official program numbers immediately precede each horses name in that portion of the chart which contains the mutuel prices and equivalent odds to of the horses involved in the official pay-off. In most instances, the official program numbers are similar to the post position numbers; in some cases they are completely different, being affected by late scratches, sta- ble couplings and mutuel fields. At all times the official program numbers will conform with those assigned each horse in the official track program.
