STARTING MACHINE A SUCCESS The rain of yesterday morning made the track at Forsyth Forsythia heavy and sloppy for the fifth days racing and in consequence the talent were all at sea in picking winners only one favorite Lillian E turning the trick out of the six evenst events evenstDuring eventuating During the afternoon the skies cleared The attendance held up as well as the rain In the first and third events at six furlongs Clem Clam Crevelings Reveling starting machine was used and it proved a great success It is merely a strong rubber band stretched across the track from two posts which flies bacu backup when released by a spring so rapidly as not to interfere with the horses For the present however the advance flag will be used in order that the starters may be recalled if the machine does not work These machines will be put in at all starting points at once Another machine was tried in the 2year old race but only one arm jwould would go up and Dick Dwyer had to send them off in the old fashioned way wayIn swaying In the first racethetalent overlooked the fact that Winslow was a Blue Eyes and he went to the post at 20 to 1 He showed the same liking for the mud as old Blue Banner whom he some ¬ what resembles and though ho was said to be short of work won in a fierce drive by a nose from Montell Monte In the twoyearold toehold race Belle of Niles showed she could run as well in the mud as on dry ground and beat the favorite Ethel Farrell cleverly cleverlyAnna cleverly Anna Mayes Ayes who was favorite in the third event ran a shocking bad race finishing last while Remedy and Dominlco Dominic did not do much better Gomor Gomorra came from behind in the stretch and won a hard race from Ashland AshlandThe Ashland The outrageously named Blacking Brush one of Brown Dicks castoffs startled every one by capturing the fourth event at 5Hz furlongs beat Ing King Otho Oho cleverly In the seren serene furlongs Lil Lila ¬ lian lain E at last gave some consolation to the backers and beat Frankie D handily Lulu T ran a poor race raceFor race For some reason or another Sixty was made favorite in the six and onehalf Neal furlongs event though Doctor G opened up as choice Helen H Gardener won with sometning something to spare Onalaska Koalas getting the place from Caufield Coalfield by a short head headBonnie hedonic Bonnie Jean b f 3 by Deceiver Pomona of the Kenwood stables died of lung fever at the Lakeside track Monday morning She was a full sister to Esther Cleveland
