BIG STRIVE WINS THE MATCH MATCHThe Machete The track at Lakeside improved as the racing went along yesterday the attendance was fair and betting in line with it Only two pro ¬ nounced bounced favorites Big Strive in the match and Pinchback Pinchbeck in the first half of the six furlongs though Terrific in the second event was an equal choice with Adrienna Adrienne and C H Whelan Wheelman Foster Bros Brows captured two races with Eloroy Helotry and Lollie Lillie Eastin Easton both at good odds and Pete Clay rode the winners in the twoyearold toehold races racesMiss racemes Miss Star made the running into the stretch for the opening race when she gave it up and Terragnes Terrenes a daughter of Terra Gotta Ota mm handily from Mildred D and Minnie Miller MillerThe Miller The second race was always between Terrific and Adrienne and the finish a close one Pete Clay outfinishing optimizing little Hothersall Others and landing Terrific the winner by a head headBarnato headband Barnato Barbate was most fancied in the second half of the twoyearold toehold race on account of his sec ¬ ond bond to Ella T last week Fourth was the best he could do Clematis winning a good race from Tom Anderson after the last named had made the running runningIn running In the match race at a mile for 500 a side Waterman opened favorite but the money went on Big Strive and he was an odds on favorite at the post The pair ran together alternating in the load till the three quarters when Big Strive began to draw clear In the stretch Waterman came up and at the eighth pole Cassin Casing tried to get through on the inside but failed He pulled round and Waterman came fast but swerved badly at the sixteenth pole Big Strive winning all out by an open length lengthMamie lanthanide Mamie Mammies G and Ramona were about equal fa ¬ vorites ivories in the mile and a sixteenth At the end Freeman brought up Eloroy Helotry caught the leaders and beat Constant out by half a length with Mamie Mammies G third thirdPinchback Pinchback Pinchbeck rewarded his backers in the sixth race winning handily from Martha R with Dr France who had made the running third thirdAnna Tirana Anna Mayes Ayes led most of the way in the last race but Lollie Lillie Eastin Easton collared her in the last twenty yards and won by half a length Helen Wren who was off badly beat Merry Monarch a head for third
