GOSSIP OP THE TURF The committee on State Affairs of the Wiscon consin Senate will tomorrow evening have a hearing on the Wylie bill which prohibits pool selling everywhere in the state It was not until after this measure was passed by the Assembly branch of the Legislature that the home interests its passage would seriously affect awoke to the danger and made preparations to point out to legislators its too radical features With the Wiley bill a law the great trotting in ¬ terests of Wisconsin would bo killed It would not only stop the important meetings at Janes ville and other trotting centers in the state but destroy the value of several of the greatest stock farms in the country including that of Wihlein Bros at V estern Union Junction J I Case at Racine II D McKinney at Janesvillo and Waters Farm at Genoa Junction These establishments re present millions of dollars and the best strains of trotting blood all of which would be rendered practically valueless by the ViLy bills passage Last Monday Secretary Babbitt of the Wisconsin Fair Managers Asso ¬ ciation issued a list of dates for seventy county fairs and race meetings all of which must bo abandoned under the Wjlie bill Because of this the county fair and trotting interests have combined to urge the Senate for relief Four bills under which these meetings could be held as before have been killed at the present ses ¬ sion The Wylio bill alone has been allowed to live and as this is likely to prove a decisive blow to a great interest its defeat or at least a change in its provisioas is likely to occur Although the bills opponents have no liking for the run ¬ ning horse interests at Milwaukee and Ideal Park its passage presages too much danger to allow it to go to enactment Superintendent Wells yesterday began the shaping of the Indiana track over which racing will begin on April 15 The course will be ready for fast work by Wednesday About 300 racers are now stabled about Roby and are being given regular exercise Among the narly owners from abroad to swell the local colony are promised J E Gushing W A McGuigan T W Coulter S C Hildreth H E Leigh W H Roller T Licalzi Everhart Bros Cella Sippy John Wilson T Hums J DeLong and G G Moshior Applications for stalls are com ¬ ing to Secretary Nathanson daily and the end of the week will find the track a place of busy preparations for the coming meeting The pro ¬ gramme book will be ready oa Thursday
