FOBSYTH RACING OPENS WELL The local racing season was inaugurated at Forsyth yesterday under the most favorable cir ¬ cumstances The afternoon was lovely early and damp late About 3500 people visited the popular Indiana track trackSecretary Secretary Nathanson had prepared an attrac ¬ tive card and the sport offered was far above the average averageTwo Two of the finishes were extremely close and the other winners outside of Harry Shannon were under punishment at the close closeGeorge George B Havill furnished a great surprise and what seems to be a real good filly in Algar eta She is by Bramble out of that old mare of sparkling speed in her time Caledonia and was highly spoken of in these columns early in the spring Her race yesterday was a jewel behind her being J E Cushings well tried Blazes Marian Ten Broeck filly Miss Hjy The latter was naturally faforite for the race and on paper looked likod a certainty She was off well and seemed to be winning at tbe head of the stretch but in the final sixteenth Algarota Caught her and in a fierce drive won by a nar ¬ row margin marginCounsellor Counsellor Bill Brien who is now training B J Johnsons horses bad Anna Mayes right on edge and carrying a liberal stable commis ¬ sion the mare won tbe initial event by a sc tnt length from Caufield Weola the favorite far from fit was a comfortable fourth fourthWith With Assignee The Deuce and Gotham in the third race there was naturally lots of betting It proved a paying event for the bookmakers Bridgot at some stages of the betting as good as 50 to 1 won it in a drive The ride on The Deuce seemed careless and the judges cau ¬ tioned Morgan MorganAn An exceedingly pretty race and close finish came out of the fourth event Ben Waddell beat ¬ ing Simmons right on tbe post by a long head
