SPLENDID RACING AT JOLIET There was almost sensational racing at Ing King alls Park yesterday Three of the finishes were extremely close Then came shockingly sudden reversal of form and a remarkable fast race by Paul Griggs Rigs The afternoons feature was a selling race at eight and onehalf Neal furlongs and out of it came the prettiest finish of the meeting The ring on a mere class notion made Babe Murphy a 7 to 5 chance and offered 8 to 1 against Mandolina Mandolin who had won a startling good race her last out Old Evanatus Vanuatu opened at a short price but drifted to 30 to 1 at the close It was a well contested race all the way Dorsey Dose got Evanatus Vanuatu off well and although he wanted to sulk the boy man ¬ aged to keep him going Olivia L with a feather on her back opened a big gap on the far turn and at the threequarter treasurer pole seemed to have the race won Rounding into the stretch however there was a general closing up and at the sixteenth pole Evanatus Vanuatu Mandolina Mandolin Olivia L and Babe Murphy were on about even terms Murphy cracked at the seventy yard mark and the other three clinked it out Evan ¬ atus battues won in the last two strides by a short head with Mandolina Mandolin the same distance in front of Olivia L Dorseys Doses handling of Evan ¬ atus battues was clever cleverOut clever Out of the sixteen maidens in the first race the talent selected Ben Van making him a 2 to 1 favorite He won a good game race after a stormy passage passageAlgareta passage Algareta Algarve the natural favorite took the two yearold earl race after a brush through the stretch with Presbyterian PresbyterianThe Presbyterian The Plutocrat was as good as 5 to 1 for the mile race and he beat Newsgathorer the odds on favorite a long way wayPaul way Paul Griggs Rigs stepped the first half in his race in 4734 This stood the others on their heads and the gray colt won rather easily in 1 12J Sam Summerville Somerville drew in yesterday and lost a bit He is a great addition to the bookmak bookmark ing King brigade brigadeIt brigade It was Ladies day and a crowd of 3500 was out
