MR JAS AS R KEENES KEENS GKEAT KEATS SPRINTER VOTER SCHRBiBBB AS A BREEDER ST Louis Mo August 24 1897 I spent last Sunday afternoon at Schreibers Schreiber farm in St Louis county and made a tour of the paddocks whore the Woodlands band of broodmares are roaming about with their suck ¬ ling colts and fillies Gratitude the dam of Lottie Loftier Mills has a perfectly formed bay colt by Foul Shot at her side This youngster is the apple of Schreibers Schreiber eye and well he may be proud of him The rest of the sucklings suckling look like selling platers platters when compared with him J C Cahn Can visited the Schreiber farm shortly before he went East with the great Ty ¬ phoon photon II and was so taken with this youthful thoroughbred that he offered Schieibor Schreiber 1200 for him on the spot It is hardiy hardily necessary to add that Barney would not part with tho thou baby for any kind of money Caroline Hamilton a good race mare in her day is the mother of a racy K oking coking bay suckling colt by th famous Lissak Lisa the best 3yearold of bis bias year Barring the Foul Shot Gratitude colt this one is the most impressiv impressive looking younpster youngster t th farm Highland the greatest mud mare of her day had a chestnut colt by her side by Balgo ALGOL wan The latest addition to the broodmares at the farm is Amelia May who was turned out last spring She is heavy in foal to Foul Shot and I could hardly realize that he was the same Amelia that ran threequarters treasurers of a mile in 114 flat at the Fair Ground only last season The transformation from the race track to the stud is suddon sudden and be ¬ yond realization In her racing days Amelia was as lithe and symmetrical as a greyhound Now she looks like a country plow horse Don Carillo Carillon was fired and turned out last spring He will be rnced ranched at San Francisco next winter Schreiber is greatly gratified over the posses ¬ sion scion of a full sister to Tom Paxton the sire of Watchmaker one of the best 2yearolds turned loose in the West this season If she is as suc such ¬ cessful cess as a broodmare as her brother has proven himself to be as a sire it will be another instance of Schreibers Schreiber proverbial luck on the turf turfB turf B COLLINS
