THICK COMMENT ON RACING It looks as though owners who expect to race at San Francisco this winter may have been getting themselves into a pretty tangle on ac ¬ count of the new rules passed last spring by the Western Turf Congress At its session in the sprme prime the Turf Congress adopted restrictions as to the size of purses These were in effect that in all cities of 500000 or over no purse should be of less value than 100 each and that in cities of less than 500000 and ever 200000 pop ¬ ulation elation the purses should not be of less value than 300 each A number of owners who may desire to race at San Francisco such as Ed Purser H T Griffln Griffin Atkin Akin Lottridge Outride G B Morris D Sloan Sam Hildreth Children W B Sink Jr and J J McCafforty have most of them won cheap purses at Aqueduct which would certainly bar them from Western Turf Congress tracks provided these new rules are intended to apply to horses that race in the East EastThe Esther The above is the folly of comment by Daily Telegraph and Mercury of New York which dubs itself the racing authority of America Had it known racing broadly the paper would have been awnre Andre that Western Turf Congress rules by consent do not bear on California racing
