FIVE FAVORITES AT HARLEM The Harlem ring got a smart drubbing yester ester ¬ day Five stout favorites won They were Peg Parks Eobair Debar Boanerges Beaneries May W and Ace Then Algareta Algarve heavily played scored in the Junior Stakes at seven furlongs The filly is a strong local favorite and with Master Woods up 4 to 1 was eagerly accepted She had such good ones as Lieber Libber Karl Flora Louise and Sacket Socket to beat She performed her task like the lady that she is The Professor was the outsider of the party He too was backed by a coterie of wise folk Cass Sloan rode him and beat the barrier He set the pace to the stretch turn and at that point seemed to be winning as Lieber Libber Karl and Flora Louise had both done their best and were resigning When straightened away Algareta Algarve who had been well placed came with a rush and squeezing through between the rails and The Professor won the stake handily handilyThe handily The western filly May W showed a touch of her real quality in the fifth race She had Abuse and a fast lot to beat but with 92 pounds and J Woods on her back the ring gave her duo rpspect respect and 8 to 5 was her best price priceSo priceS So confident was Mr Cameron her owner of May Ws ability that his instructions to Master Woods were to just wait to the stretch and then outflash outlaws the leaders on speed May W and Woods had poor luck On the far turn they were sharply shut off and had to pull up Three furlongs from home they seemed hopelessly beaten but when straightened away May W came to her horses and raced over them in the way that only horses of the choicest class run over their opponents It was an impressive victory Tom Ryan started two Robair Roar and Ace Both were at short prices Both were heavily played Both scored Eobair Debar was run up 500 and Ace 300 by J E Hand Both were bought in inThe inter The first race was a gallop for the favorite Peg Parks and Boanerges Beaneries under lightweight won the third in a gallop There will be no racing at Harlem Friday and Saturday Lakeside opens Monday for a fifteen day meeting With it the local season closes
