GOSSIP OF THE TURF The horses now at Bennings Jennings are all reported to be in good health and condition with the exception of McLaughlins McLaughlin lot which contract ¬ ed slight colds on the way over The stables now at the track are John Hynes Haynes 16 J S Wadsworth Adsorb 11 J McLaughlin 21 William Jennings 15 Adam Beck 10 P S P Randolph 6 E H Hanna 3 HAllen Allen 5 J Slack 3 M F Stephenson 2 Fred Miller 3 George Miller 4 and W Oliver 4 Among those due in a few days are R Bradley with 25 Green Mor Moor ¬ ris Kris 8 Frank Reagan 12 F McGee 6 RDog Dog ett Etta 5 George Easton 7 W P Biirch Birch 21 F R T Hitchcock 7 W C Daly Dally 12 12Not Not much has yet been done in the way of fast gallops but the horses are all getting in shape for speed trials and if the open weather continues most of them will be going on at a inerry finery pace quite soon soonThere soother There are comparatively few big winners in California this season George Wheelock Headlock and Charles Quinn are accounted fair winners although the latter has had several disastrous days ONeill O'Neill Eckert Becker has lost lately Joe Rose is reported to be well ahead Dave Gideon Ed Purser and a host of other eastern plungers are losers and it looks as if no one was laying up much money this year San Francisco Exchange Curley Curly Brown has filled almost all his dates for the season of 1898 Curley Curly will open with the red flag at Nashville continue at Newport nd cover the socalled scaled Canadian circuit made up of Highland Park Fort Erie Montreal and Windsor Brown will close the season with the Nashville fall meeting as he did in 1897
