NOTES OF THE TURF Despite his last years managers assertion to the contrary Jimmy Michael Beems Bees determined to become a jockey McCabe has had him rid ¬ ing King all kinds of horses at Gravesend Graves and he has steadily improved in his work Jimmy has done so well in fact McCabe has made up his mind to allow him to ride a horse at Gravesend Graves on the opening day of the Brooklyn meeting Michael will not tide at the Queens County Jockey Clubs meeting because McCabe is afraid to trust him on the abrupt turns at the Aque Aqua ¬ duct track His first mount at Gravesend Graves will probably be the threeyearold Hanover colt Handball HandballTod Handball Tod Todd Sloan presumably acting for the Fleisch Flemish manns mans has been for several weeks trying to secure Geyser He asked Mr Corrigan to put a price on the horse and the bigturfman final ¬ ly replied that he would take 10000 Sloan offered 8000 which was refused It is doubt ¬ ful foul whether 10000 would purchase the speedy son of Ben Ali which cost Mr Corrigan 1500 a little over a yer Ayer ago Breeder and Sportsman SportsmanSteeplechase Sportsman Steeplechase rider Welch was ruled off the Ingleside Ingles track Saturday He rode a foul race on Foremost carrying Tortoni Tortoise wide and furth fourth ¬ er aggravated matters by striking Kinney who was up on Tortoni Tortoise with his whip during the race When called into the stand he was badly intoxicated so the Judges thought racing would get along just as well without him himFortunate importunate Fortunate pulled up lame at the conclusion of his last race
