GOOD RACING AT HARLEM There was a good track good racing and a fair attendance at Harlem yesterday yesterdayA yesterday A sizzling finish decided the opening event in favor of Nora Ives Wives the favorite over Josephine B being with Cousin Lettie Letter lapped on and seemingly the strongest at the end Outrun by the winner the first part Josephine B closed steadily in the stretch but could not quite get up Cousin Lottie Loftier ran the best race raceThe racketed The second race was a peculiar one It was three quarters for 3yearold fillies Festa Feta and Chiquita Circuital alternated as rear guards along the back stretch and around the turn At the bend for home they moved up together Festa Feta got through on the inside and Chiquita Circuital on the out ¬ side near the middle of the track At the end Festa Feta won easily and Chiquita Circuital was second Mary Kinsella Knell the pacemaker was a tired third The early pace affected the result resultSutton results Sutton was on his good behavior in the third race at eight and onehalf Neal furlongs Starting on the extreme outside he took the lead in the first sixteenth and only relinquished it in the closing fifty yards yardsIn yards In the stretch Barataria Barratries closed with Sutton and in a hustling finish beat him less than a length Morte Mote Fonso Fonts lost ground in the run home Martin persevered with him until hope ¬ lessly Lesley beaten then eased him up upA pA A field of five 3yearold fillies started in the fourth race Good Friend was a 1 to 2 shot backed down to 2 to 5 Little Jed Waldo Weald caught laudation for the way in which he brought up Nannie Nannies Davis The kid had second place secure and the crowd endorsed him In a moment of incandescence Jed let the fillys fills head down and used that infernal machine of racing the whip Dave Waldo Weald Jeds Jed his son said I wish I hadnt hadn't given the kid the whip He might have had a chance without it itThe tiThe The handicap at threequarters treasurers demonstrated that Imp is a better filly than even her most ardent admirers had believed She carried seven pounds above the scale weight Every one of the other starters had weight off the extremes being represented by Dave Waldo Weald with three and Albert S with thirty pounds There were many who thought that too much was being asked of her She was backed from 3 to 5 to 1 to 2 Willie Martin rode an admirable race on her and she had all she could do to beat Dave Waldo Weald with Cherry Leaf an uncomfort uncomforted ¬ ably close third and closing strongly stronglyAmyntas strongly Amyntas Mynas won the closing race Mazie Maze V kept her company for threesixteenths and then quit Miss Marks came from the ruck truck and made the finish exciting Rosavannah was strongest of all in her final strides stridesBrown strides Brown Gal and Foxnette Fondest were excused by the judges from the fourth and sixth races re ¬ spectively specially Veterinarians certificates of sick ¬ ness and Fitzgerald four Rey Frey Salazar from Pat Dunnes Dunes string was one that McCarron Macaroon added to his string stringAfter straighter After the third race Judge Clark called Willie Martin into the stand and sharply criticized his finish on Morto Morton Fonse Fosse Martin said the horse was beaten half a dozen lengths when he stopped riding The judge insisted that the horse should have been ridden out Martin thereupon expressed his dislike to being called into the stand on account of bad horses and declared he would not ride Imp and Foxnette Fondest although he had ac ¬ cepted creped he mounts Foxnotte Footnote was excused later but before the handicap Col Cool Clark again called Martin into the stand and informed him that he must ride Imp After Imps race Mar ¬ tin was again called into the stand and asked if the filly was straight Being answered in the affirmative Col Cool Clark complimented the jockey upon the manner in which he had handled the filly Martin went to Cincinnati last night to ride Plaudit in the Buckeye Stakes today todayPat today Pat Dunne did not conceal his displeasure over Martins having been called into the stand He said If Martin is crooked he should not be allowed to ride If he is I would like to have somebody explain to me why all the most ex ¬ perienced prince trainers and the leading men includ include ¬ ing King such owners as Mr Belmont and the Thomp Thom ¬ sons give him mounts whenever they can secure his services servicesImp services Imp is a wonderful filly but I would have been beaten had I followed instructions said Willie Martin Mr Brossman Grossman ordered me to go to the front no matter how fast they ran I could have been head and head with Dave Waldo Weald the first five furlongs but if I had I would have been beaten He was
