HARRY SHANNONS SHANNON GOOD RACE The winners at Harlem yesterday all took long routes The result of the third race might have been different if Batten had taken a shorter one On the inside the track was sticky On the outside it was dry and lumpy on the sur slur ¬ face It dried rapidly during the afternoon and dust was flying wheu when the last two races were run runFor rumor For the first race Judge Wilcox and Bill An ¬ thony thorny were equal favorites Bill Anthony bad never before started but he had worked well and Burns was up His owner believed the colt should not have been at so short odds as the going was certainly against him The race was between the pair After getting into the stretch they joined issue Burns brought up his mount on the outside landed him against Judge Wil Wail ¬ cox and apparently tried to hold him there Caywood Cawed pulled Wilcox away then went on and won without further trouble The judges called Burns into the stand and cautioned him about bumping into and leaning against horses horsesThe horseshoe The second race was a surprise For the first throe furlongs Inuendo Innuendo Haphazard and Harry Aiianuon Apian kept close company On the back stretch Inuendo Innuendo briefly had his neck in front Then Haphazard and Harry Shannon began dis dais ¬ puting putting the lead Until they got into the stretch there appeared to be no other contenders Half way down Morte Mote Fonse Fosse joined them A fierce drive followed Beyond the sixteenth Hap ¬ hazard began to prop and was clearly beaten Shannon and Morte Mote Fonse Fosse neither flinched nor faltered until the race was decided by a head Santello Antelope won the 2yearold handicap by cliver liver handling and gameness Jinks was ex ¬ travagantly ravage touted on work a half in 474 being one of the good reports about her While Jinks and Batten went away racing wide on the turn Clawson Lawson sat still on Santello Antelope and steered him alung lung the middle of the track Jinks fell out in the stretch Batten swung in near the outside rail Santello Antelope cut across to head him off They got together a little below the grandstand and were whipped out Santello Antelope proving the gainer When whips were drawn the colts were near the outside rails Both swerved over until they finished close under the timers stand standSergeant stander Sergeant McGuigan Michigan brought Boanerges Beaneries over from Washington Park to win a little expense money in the fourth race He won the second prize Donna Rita won the race It was queerly run Boanerges Beaneries led away Entering the back stretch Donna Rita passed him on the inside then swung out and took the path Boanerges Beaneries tried to pass her on the inside and got his neck in front Then she drew away Seeing he had the worst of the footing Burns pulled over be ¬ hind the mare and trailed her around the turn Coming into the home stretch Burns began rid ¬ ing King Boanerges Beaneries closed with the mare It was a drive to the sixteenth when Burns seeing that bis bias mount was beaten stopped driving him himOConnell homophone OConnell O'Connell was an oddson godson favorite for the fifth race but did not perform like one From the start he was outrun by The Manxman Mamma In the finish The Devil easily beat him for the place The Manxman Mamma had the race at his mercy i at all points t An extra race of threequarters treasurers was added to the card Howitzer was the favorite with Tom Tuher Tougher a strong second choice At the post Toher Other was well backed He went to the front on the back stretch and Howitzer hard ridden could not quite catch him Still there was an interesting finish finishShortly finishes Shortly before the time for closing entries jesterday yesterday the sky became overcast and a re ¬ markable arable darkness prevailed A number of owners who had entries ready withheld them A few minutes after closing time the darkness lifted and the sun shone Then there was a rush to try to get in entries but it was too late One race did not fill so an extra to be third on todays today card was arranged to close at 2 oclock o'clock Without it there would not have been a race of a mile on todays today card cardH card H Eugene Leigh who went to Cincinnati Saturday night and from there to Detroit got back yesterday morning At Cincinnati he saw the colt Heliobas Hellions recently purchased by Bromley Brome Co The colt is now troubled with a slight attack of distemper which will defer his shipment to Chicago for about a week Reports from Cincinnati that the colt is seriously ill are
