THE ELECTRIC BATTERY AGAIN A turf scandal of some interest cropped up at Latonia Antonia Monday particulars of which are thus detailed in the Cincinnati Enquirer EnquirerJockey Enquirer Jockey Aker Baker has asked to be released from the contract which Arthur Duffy has on his services Yesterday Aker Baker went before the judges at Latonia Antonia and made the request referred to prefacing it with a serious charge against Butch Diebault Default the trainer for Duffy The boy accused Diebault Default of having tried on several occasions to get him to use an electric battery on horses ridden by him not only horses in the Duffy string but also on outside mounts He said that when Diebault Default first made that sort of a proposition to him he refused to do as requested giving as one reason for his refusal his inability to handle the device The battery which the trainer wanted him to use was a small affair a magnet battey battery to be carried in the hand Diebault Default he asserted gave him a small block of wood of the size of his alleged battery and requested him to practice with it Aker Baker produced the block but the battery itself was not in evidence Ho charged that Diebault Default had given him the battery on two different occasions after he had mounted for a race The first time was June 14 when he was riding Kittie Kitties B in a sixfurlong sniffling race won by Purity He took the device and as he passed out on the track to go to the starting point he handed it to his brother who is also his valet A few days later the apparatus was again given him by Diebault Default to be used on Duffys Duffs horse Teuton Teutonic On that occasion the boy said he threw the thing over into the infield After hearing Akers Askers statement the judges sent for Diebault Default He denied the jockeys charge and then made a counter charge that Charles Showalter Howler a former valet of the jockey had told him that Aker Baker had used an electric saddle saddleThe saddle The boy promptly informed the judges that Showalter Howler is now in the employ of the L N Railroad and requested that a policeman be sent for him down to Milldale Moldable One of the track detectives was dispatched for Showalter Howler and he was brought to the track without knowing why he had been summoned In the presence of Diebault Default he was asked whether he had ever said Jhat Hat Aker Baker used an electric saddle He em ¬ phatically plastically denied ever having said anything of the kind He furthermore denied over having had any conversation with Diebault Default and said that he never had any use for him or words to that effect This of course put Diebault Default in a bad position The judges decided to look further into the matter They will wait until Mr Duffy can be seen In the meantime Aker Baker has pending a further investigation into the matter been released from his contract No further entries will he received from the stable until the matter has been settled
