GOSSIP OF THE TURF Early in the spring at the Newport meeting Tom McDowell confided to a few friends the fact that he had in his stable a filly that he considered better than any of the youngsters which he had at that time showed up As Spirituolle Spiritual who appears to be about the best 2yearold filly out in the west this year had already at that time demonstrated her quality the untried miss Admiration was credited by those who were in the know with being a veritable crackerjack and more than one person has been lying in wait all season for her to make her first appearance Not until yesterday did her name appear on the boards She made her debut in the closing event at Washington Park a fivefurlong riverfront scramble for maiden twoyearolds toeholds Every ¬ body about the Covington Coving poolrooms appeared to have the tip on her and there was an awful scramble to get down on her at even money The tip was one of the best of the season for the poolroom people Admiration failed to get any part of the money and the Cincinnati dele ¬ gation Gaston was sent back over the river in a badly shattered condition If breeding goes for anything however those who went down on the supposed good thing yesterday will be able to get their money back before the end of the season The filly which is owned jointly by Mr McDowell and Colonel Milton Young is by Mr Youngs Young famous stallion Kingston out of the one time great western stake mare Hypojrite Hypocrite whose brilliant performances on the western tracks in the col cool ¬ ors of popular Bill Scully Sully are remembered by racegoers racehorse of a former generation Admiration it may be added has been off nqarly gnarly all season and now that she is beginning to round to again which is to be inferred from the fact that Mr McDowell started her yesterday it is rea area ¬ sonable sinkable to suppose that she will soon be heard from Cincinnati Enquirer EnquirerAlthough Enquirer Although the fall meeting at Newport is a long way off yet the track is filling up with stables at a lively rate Nearly all the horses at Latonia Antonia have moved to the Campbell County track and every morning the track is alive with flyers getting their workout
