METHODS OF JOCKEYS JOCKEYSIn Jockeying In speaking of Sloan and his faithful imita imitate ¬ tor tore an Eastern writer has this to say The remarkable riding of Tod Todd Sloan in the East this season has given the public much to talk about No matter what one may say about Sloan picking his mounts the fact remains that in the art of ridinj riding he is a master He is as far ahead of other jockeys riding as the American gunner outclasses his Spanish ene Rene ¬ my Sloan has but one imitator That is Danny Maher He had but one predecessor and that was Snapper Garrison The famous Snapper rode in a style peculiarly his own It is a difficult style to describe It Jwas Was more of a crouch than anything else Sloans Slogans dimin dimming ¬ utive outlive stature enables him to ape the Snap ¬ pers peers style and with better results than the Snapper himself ever achieved Maher copies Sloan closely crouching well forward on his mount It is a remarkable coincidence that these three jockeys who ride in almost the same style have done great work in the sad ¬ dle dale The Snapper became known the world over Sloans Slogans success last year waslthe waste talk of turf circles in every corner of the globe Maher has yet to become famous but his work is more remarked every day he rides Maher lacks the years of patient work which have brought Sloan to his present state of perfection The remarkable superiority of these jockeys over Simms Sims Taral Aral Doggett Doge Williams and others is beyond question Let any one of the four named jockeys ride a horse and should Sloan have the mount on the same horse a few days later that horses form wijl will shoV shove from ten to fifteen pounds improvement There isno gismo dis dais ¬ puting putting this fact Maher is not so great an im ¬ provement preferment for as remarked above he as yet lacks the experience and judgment But he has a beautiful pair of hands and the Sloan seat and many prefer this joungster youngster to Simms Sims Doggett Doge or other jockeys
