GOSSIP OF THE TURF TURFThe Tufted The sudden determination on the part of the Latonia Antonia management to call the meeting off yesterday may have inconvenienced some of the horsemen but it was justified by the situa situ ¬ tion ion Aside from Secretary Hopper the Latonia Antonia people were not in the first place very heartily in favor of extending the meeting beyond the thirtyone thirty days as originally arranged for As a matter of fact Colonel Applegate Appellate the princi prince ¬ pal owner of the track and the backer of the meeting was opposed to the idea of an ex ¬ tension and it was only out of deference to the wishes of the horsemen and some of his associates that he agreed to the extension As it got to be according to one of the gentlemen interested in the betting ring a case of send ¬ ing King good money after bad the promoters of the meeting or rather of its extension could hardly be blamed for calling the meeting off The horsemen in any event have no cause for a kick The sudden termination of the meet ¬ ing King may have worked a hardship on some of them but it would have been the same if the racing had continued the remainder of the week or even the remainder of the month Cincinnati Enquirer Lat Damrow Damon by Macduff Mac Novel a well known racehorse some four years back was de ¬ stroyed strayed by fire when his owners barn near Hantington Huntington W Va was consumed in a con ¬ flagration fulguration last Tuesday The horse was used for breeding purposes and cost his owner Wil Wail ¬ liam Kyle 1800 when a 2yearold
