NOTES OF THE TURF. Of the first two-year-old winner of the year, the San Francisco Chronicle says: "Nina, the winner of the first two-year-old race of 1899, is a chestnut filly by Patriot, an untried sire by the Australian horse Cheviot, dam Eda by Hock-hocking. Patriot first ran in Colonel Chinns colors, but was subsequently campaigned by Dan Deunison of Sacramento." Patriot was first called Chevy Hock and sold for ,750 as a yearling. The San Francisco Examiner says that a prominent turfman now there has received a letter declaring positively that racing will be resumed at Gloucester, N. J., next spring and tho English system of betting on credit and sottling overy Monday will prevail. It is roportod that H. D. Brown has reconsidered his avowed determination to do no more starting and that he is an applicant for the post of starter on the Jockey Club tracks. The Australian racehorses, The Grafter, Bat-tallion, Manazona, Syerla and Sailor Boy are to be shipped to England on January 12, Enquirer, Chicago, 111. Zamar II. is a gelding.
