i 1 GOSSIP OF THE TURF. Burns and, Waterhouse will race on a largo scale in the east next summer. This noted firm will send over the Bockies two strong stablest It will pick out the best horses and ship thorn to New York. They will be trained by Dan Stone, who has been in the employ of Burns and Waterhouse for several years. Napamax will be the brightest star and if nothing happens will go to the post in the Brooklyn. Charley Thorpe will do the riding for the far eastern stable. The second division will ba under the charge of Mike Kelly, who will race at St. Louis and perhaps at Chicago. He will have about a dozen handy platers in his care. Burns and Waterhouse have engaged Joo Piggott to do then heavyweight riding and Devin, the promising lightweight, to do the rest. Both are capable pilots. Ben Timmons will stay in California and look after their horses on tho ranch. Burns and Waterhouse have not encountered the best of success racing in the east. Invariably their best performers have gone wrong, and were not in the race at all. It is hoped that their popular colors will be seen frequently in front next season.
