If the Western Union Telegraph Company persists in its reported refusal to continue its pool room service longer that will settle the alleged racing for 0 purses. It will be a good thing when the Outlaw business comes to an end. The men engaged in it deserve no sympathy or consideration. They had their chance to race in a legitimate way but deliberately threw it away, and the legitimate turf is well rid of them. There are other avocation in abnndancs to which they should turn their attention. Honestly conducted racing has no place for them nor would they have any taste for that style of racing. A Chillicothe dispatch of Friday to the Enquirer says: "Imp will be brought up tomorrow from the Harness farm and put into training at the fair grounds track. Her old trainer, Mr. C. E. Brossman, of Lithepolis, arrived here today to take charge of her. The mare is in excellent shape and, it is expected, will be ready for the track in five or six weeks. She will open her season at the Memphis meeting early in April, and will then be taken east, where she will probably remain the rest of the season. She is entered in the Brooklyn, Suburban and Metropolitan Handicaps. The mare will probably receive an ovation when she reaches here tomorrow." What er Lou not only won the Evergreen Stakes at Ingleside but in doing it he also wiped out the long standing record of the noted gray horse Gabriel at nine furlongs heats. At Sheepshead Bay, Sep. 23, 1880, Gabriel reeled off two heats, at the distance in 1:56, 1:56, and that stood as the record until it was laid away by What er Lous fine performance Saturday. Cromwell was entered in a race at Ingleside last Monday but he did not start. Why he did not is thus explained by the Examiner: "The judges threw out Cromwells entry in the fifth race. They are puzzled at the difference in quality between the horses performances at Oakland and on this side of the bay and they are going to think the matter over." Fred Foster is reported to have bought the two-year-old colt Yellow Tail, by Watercress Paloma, from Burns and Waterhouse, whether for himself or some other person seems to be in doubt. The purchase is not doubtful but the alleged price 0 000 is open to grave suspicion. Perhaps an extra cipher was somehow added to it in the process of transmission. The Summer Cup, run at the Australian Jockey Club meeting at Sydney, was won by Strathroy, by Lochiel, a son of Prince Charley. The Queensland horee Merloolas, with 13 pounds in the saddle, was beaten in the last stride by a scant head. Amberite the present crack of the Australian turf pulled uplame and may be hopelessly broken down. L. E. Myers, who was a turf operator at intervals, but of less renown in horse racing iu that corner than in the sport of pedestrianism, was a victim of pneumonia at New York Thursday. Myers was a wonderful runner at the middle distances, and at one time held fourteen American, ten Canadian and three English records from 350 to 1,000 yards. 1 1 ; :
