GOSSIP OF THE TCRF. At Louisville last Thursday four Kentucky Derby candidates were sent miles. Of their work the Courier-Journal says: "His Lordship, J. D. Smiths Rayon dOr — Salhe McClelland colt, was sent a mile in the heavy going with plenty of weight up. He negotiated the distance in l:56i, and looked tired at the finish. His work did not impress the horsemen who saw it, but it must be remembered that the track was heavy. Besides His Lordship does not lock as well as he will by May 4, when the New Louisville Jockey Clubs spring meeting opens. Ways and Means, His Lordships stable companion, but not a Derby colt, worked a mile in 1 :55, with nothing to spare. "The best work of the foienoon was done by Desperado John Maddens Hanover — Despenia colt, who negotiated a mile in 1 :50. Hapsburg and Mazo, Maddens other Derby candidates, worked a mile together in 1 :52. All had up their weight. Desperado is probably the best looker of the quartet." Next Saturday the Ingleside Handicap, four miles, will be decided at the Oakland track. It is one of the principal events offered by the Pacific Coast Jockey Club, The weights assigned the horses engaged are as follows : Horses. Age.Wt.
