There promises to be a rare supply of jockeys available for the coming race meeting at the Fair Grounds. Eddie Jones, Devin and Powell are among the latest arrivals from San Francisco. Jones comes here to ride for Caesar Young. He came east with Charles Thorpe and speut several days at Thorpes farm in Nebraska. Thorpe will arrive next Saturday in time to pilot Dr. Sheppard in the Inaugural. Devin is considered one of the most promising lightweights developed at Frisco last winter. Burns and Waterhouse have a call on him. Powell is a free lance, although George Bennett may secure a call on him for the St. Louis meeting. Powell is said to be quite a race rider.— St. Louis Republic. The horses belonging to the powerful Whitney stable will not be raced for Borne time, because of the recent death of Mrs. Whitney. Abe Cahns speedy bat eccentric old mare, I a g f, Linda, has been mated with Dr. Hasbrouck. and after being raced for a time at St. Louis will be given ber well earned release from track service. Linda has beaten many a good one in ber time and been beaten by many a bad one. Her defeat of the mighty Morello at Washington Park, when both were three- j ear-olds, was the cause of any amount of heartburning and grumbling and in line with many of her performances since.
